Das Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V Mainboard mit dem Intel J1900 Prozessor (Stromverbrauch ca. 12 bis 25 Watt, je nach Zusammenstellung) hat alle Voraussetzungen um als Hostsystem für die Virtualisierung zu dienen. Die Leistung ist nicht besonders gut im Vergleich mit neuen Hochleistungs – PCs und Servern, aber für ein stromsparendes Heimsystem (20 Watt Volllast) oder als Server zur Überwachung reicht die Leistung. Im Heimbereich kann man damit eine NAS, Router oder auch eine eigene Cloud betreiben.

VMware ESXi (vSphere 5.5) Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Ist mit Stand vom Mai 2014 auf dem Mainboard Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V als einziges nicht lauffähig.
Citrix XenServer 6.2 Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Läuft, aber hat keine Treiber für die USB Ports. (Stand vom Mai 2014)
Proxmox VE 3.2: (Mai 2014) Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Ist nur mit Einschränkungen kompatibel. Es setzt auf das Linux Betriebssystem Debian auf und hat aus diesem Grund ebenso Probleme mit den USB Ports. Da bereits in der neuen Betaversion von Debian das Problem behoben wurde, so werden die USB Ports auch in einer der nächsten Versionen mit Proxmox VE funktionieren. Wer die USB Ports nicht benötigt, der kann Proxmox VE 3.2 installieren.
Ab Version proxmox-ve_3.2-5a885216-5 (Mai 2014) funktionieren die USB Ports!
Linux Fedora 19 mit XEN Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Fedora & XEN laufen auf dem Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V. Es gibt jedoch sehr hohe Leistunsverluste! Sobald man fedora mit dem Xen Kernel bootet, verliert das System 50% der Leistung. Ebenso haben die VMs eine sehr geringe Leistung.
Fedora 19 und Fedora 20 Desktop mit VirtualBox Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
VirtualBox läuft stabil mit Fedora. Die Leistung der VMs ist jedoch nicht sehr gut und liegt etwa 40% unter der Leistung von QEMU.
Fedora 19 mit QEMU Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Fedora 19 hat die besten Benchmark Ergebnisse. Ebenso sind die VMS auf Fedora 19 mit QEMU am schnellsten. Wenn man Fedora mit Desktop installiert so sind die Benchmark Ergebnisse etwa 5-10% geringer.
Windows 8.1 mit MS Hypervisor Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Der MS Hypervisor von Windows 8.1 ist der zweitschnellste im Test. Er ist etwa 10% unter dem Fedora 19 mit QEMU. Der Hypervisor hat nur den Nachteil, dass man keine USB Geräte direkt auf die VMs verbinden kann.
Fedora 20 Desktop mit QEMU Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Die VM ist etwa 15% langsamer als bei einer Fedora 19 installation ohne Desktop. Die Benchmarks sind identisch wie mit dem Windows 8.1 mit MS Hypervisor.
Benchmarks Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V
Es wurde jeweils 2 VMs installiert und beide wurden gestartet. Auf einem der beiden wurde dann der Test durchgeführt, während die zweite VM im Leerlauf war. Das Testsystem, auf dem der Test/ Benchmark durchgeführt wurde, war immer ein Ubuntu 12.04 VM.
